WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on Monday executed a search warrant at Mar-a-Lago, the Florida estate of former President Donald Trump. The raid, which was reportedly part of an investigation into the handling of classified documents, marks a significant escalation in the Justice Department's scrutiny of Trump's actions.
According to multiple sources, FBI agents were seen arriving at Mar-a-Lago in the morning and were reportedly seeking documents related to Trump's handling of classified information. The raid was reportedly conducted with the approval of Attorney General Merrick Garland and was overseen by a team of FBI agents from Washington, D.C.
The search warrant reportedly stemmed from an investigation into whether Trump had mishandled classified documents after leaving office. In February, the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) said it had retrieved 15 boxes of documents from Mar-a-Lago that should have been turned over to the agency at the end of Trump's presidency.
The raid on Mar-a-Lago is the latest in a series of investigations into Trump's conduct. The Justice Department is also investigating Trump's role in the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol, as well as his efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.
