Vladimir Putin, the current President of the Russian Federation, was born on October 7, 1952, in Leningrad, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union (present-day Saint Petersburg, Russia).

His father, Vladimir Spiridonovich Putin, was a conscript in the Soviet Navy and later worked at the Kirov Plant, a tank factory, while his mother, Maria Ivanovna Putina (née Shelomova), was a factory worker.

Putin had two older brothers, Viktor and Albert, but both died in infancy before he was born.

Putin's Education and Career

Putin graduated from Leningrad State University in 1975 with a degree in law.

He then worked for the KGB, the Soviet Union's secret police, for 16 years, rising to the rank of lieutenant colonel.
